Welcome back, and you will find your way in time, I promise. There is no rush, and the only thing that you need to do is just savor and take in all the moment of being a new mother. Happy 1st birthday to the whole family!
yayy, I'm so glad you're back! Stay gentle with yourself, writing takes the time it takes, and I'm glad you've begun sharing it with us again. And happy birthday to your daughter! I love that she already loves books <3
Welcome back! I love what your writing teacher said about forgiveness and will be thinking about that. So happy to read your essay and looking forward to your future writing. Happy birthday to your little one!
Welcome back, Yuezhong! I loved seeing your post in my email. Everything you've written resonates with me as I'm about to embark on the journey of parenthood as well. I often wonder how a mother who has a creative passion makes time for her that work while her life is an endless to-do-list? It's important that you're writing again, despite the difficulty. Even if you don't do it as often, I love that you still are writing. It gives me hope that I too will be able to manage making art as a mom with a full time job and life.
Congratulations, Nafisa on becoming a mother soon?! It's a beautiful, crazy and wild ride. There will be many changes, but also many more delights. The initial phase was the most difficult (IMO), but I'm sure you'll find your way back into your creative work. It might take a while and will look different, but you'll find your way back! Hope all goes well and I'd to hear your updates :)
What an absolute delight to find your email in my inbox this morning.
You are spot on with your description of how quickly you cannot recall never having had this new human in your life. And also with how much things need to change.
I'm so glad you have so much support, I was blessed to be able to take a whole year at home with my babies, but even that took some juggling to manage. I can't begin to imagine how much harder it would be to add in the demands of an employer and travel either way.
Time does get a little easier as they move to looking outside of themselves; this time shall pass, but yes, grab and save as many memories as you can. Ironically I was just looking through some old journals this week, and amazed at how much I have forgotten over time, but those recorded memories, while forgotten, have not been lost.
However long it takes, I look forward to your next update. You write beautifully and with great depth and reflection. Thank you.
Your words made my day 💖 I was so touched when you reached out last year and it meant the world to me.
Looking back, so much happened this past year yet it feels like it went by so fast. And as you said, I already feel like like things are starting to get easier by the day. She could spend a bit longer entertaining herself now while we do other things and a lot less dependent on me for nutrition.. But it also gets harder in other ways, like she is more aware when I'm not around. Anyways, everyday is completely new and everyday I'm learning something from her. It's amazing and wild!
And by this point perhaps writing is no longer just writing but a way of reconnecting with a community —- who reminds you as long as you keep sharing and we keep reading, we participate in your life as well :)
