I'm glad we shared a similar experience visiting home. It's very difficulty for outsiders to understand what it feels like to visit childhood home after beinga way for so long.
I know! And thank you for sharing those experiences as an immigrant. It can be vulnerable. I don’t see a lot of people writing about this. I think that’s why I find your newsletter intriguing.
Wow, I am also pleasantly surprised by the things you were pleasantly surprised with! Maybe I should visit China again, my memory of it wasn't quite like that. And now that you mentioned about pants fitting well and shoes (this is a surprise for me!), I must make a mental note to do some shopping next time I'm back in Malaysia. :)
China seems to surprise me every time I visit. It changes to fast and I can barely keep up with the frequency that I visit. Shopping in Asia is so good for your body and your wallet :p
It's so interesting that the subway waiting area shows the AC level of each car—I love that! Great to hear about different parts of the world, thank you for sharing.
So glad you've continued the series! How the clothes/shoes fit differently and were better tailored to you was such a fascinating detail. A fantastic pair of shoes is such a reason to celebrate!!
I enjoyed reading your post. Especially the party about language. My 20 years living in China left me more fluent in Chinese in some things and more fluent in English in others, US politics in English and Chinese politics in Mandarin. The biggest challenge is when my mind can't decide which language it's thinking in verses the language I'm speaking! 😅 加油!
In Shanghai, the subway station has a display above each track that shows the passenger occupancy rate of each cart of the next incoming train. 😊
Wow that's great! Fuzhou's subway is not even half as full as Shanghai's, and people cared more about the hot weather for now haha!
"It was so, so good." I don't know how to express my recent trip properly in words, but that was the feeling I had too.

Yes, I was shocked too - as someone who grew up there! Thanks for reading!

Thank you for reading them, Sophia! Words like these keep me going!

Thank you for your kind comment, Todd. What an interesting life you've had! You've lived longer in China than me!
Loved hearing about your homecoming. So glad you were able to have what sounded like a beautiful trip.
Thanks, Jenna! I so appreciate your comment :)
I love reading your stories… can’t wait for part 3
Thank you! This means a lot to me!
Enjoyed reading your travel/back home experience
Thank you, Janice! That makes me so happy :)
I loved the part about your hibernating native tongue emerging! And I could very vividly picture your triumphant face and Arthur’s approving face lol
That was exactly my intended effect!
